Happy New Year! It's 2019 and one of my resolutions is to own my data. I'm going to scrap all my Google services, scrub my social media, etc and do my best to keep everything FOSS. I'm looking for work in the open-source community. In the past few years, I have had more personal growth than any other time in my life. I'm going to keep the ball rolling this year but I do need some help.
I am setting up my own personal server/cloud storage. I will have my own domain, email address, etc. What I need help with is what you guys would recommend for relatively low maintenance but secure setup. In my head I imagine the following.
Dd-wrt friendly network equipment with all traffic routed through a VPN.
- server/nas with encryption.
- all computers running similar distros with home
folder encryption and auto backup of home folders to server.
- stricter firewall, ufw or othernsolution.
- lastly, safe browsing. I.e. Firefox/waterfox with unlock/ddg, etc.
Am I missing anything? If so, please let me know. I'm also having difficulty finding any sort of digital assistant available with multi platform support. Looking at the Mycroft mk2's but I'm still delving into the open source home automation stuff. I also don't know how well the Librem 5 will integrate and I need to find a Google free/secure rom to put on my phones.
