I'm not normally one to take note of the comings and goings of celebrities. Personally, it normally doesn't matter to me because it doesn't affect me. In the case of Pewdiepie jumping on the DLive bandwagon... I see strong potential that the situation may cause severe and lasting damage.
Recently Pewdiepie announced that he has partnered with DLive for a time limited exclusive live streaming commitment, including giving out $50k to others who participate along-side of him. On the surface level this appears to be a wonderful thing, and most news covering the topic state that he is embracing "crypto" but there is something rotten in the mix. The "crypto" underlying DLive (Lino Points) is a Ponzi Scheme, not a true digital currency.
Analysis & independent experience.
I don't think he is knowingly participating in a scam as he has so much to lose, but I suspect the fallout will result in broad restrictions with horrible effects on the entire internet. Censorship is already at dishearteningly alarming levels. For someone with his level of influence to lead the young into a scam that will be portrayed as worse than Bernie Madoff, it will be the nail in the coffin for internet freedom as well as preventing legitimate distributed applications from getting the user base required to be successful.
@gbryant - Please weigh in on this publicly (video) after performing some research. We need as many voices as possible warning about this before it happens. If we're fortunate we may even avert the worst outcome.
@ everyone else - CALL TO ACTION - Message Pewdiepie and anyone you personally know who is even remotely aware of him to warn about this scam.
